There are so many ways to make a difference in today’s world – but who knew that one of those ways could be with something as small as a cup of coffee?
Scioto Valley Coffee, Circleville’s local coffee shop, began collecting donations for “10 Cents of Change”.
“We did this ’10 Cents of Change,’ where customers donated ten cents and I matched it from the coffee shop, so anything they donated, I donated.” Julie, the owner of Scioto Valley Coffee, shared a bit about her upcoming trip and the details that were involved to make this all a reality.

Julie, Crimson Cup and other coffee house owners (at their own expense) are already on their way Honduras for a few day trip to take on these projects that the donations from 10 Cents of Change helped to fund – something that was started to help Honduran coffee farmers by purchasing water filtration buckets so that they can have clean water.
“There are twelve of us going, four are corporate employees of Crimson Cup, the other eight that are going are coffee shop managers and owners all throughout. We’ve got a couple coming from Pennsylvania, so there are other shops other than just ours that is participating in this.”
When asked about what inspired them to do this, Julie explained: “We met the farmers’ last spring, they told us of the troubles that they were having and their water situation… These are just farmers that we buy our coffee from and anything we can do to support them, to [continue to] give us the great coffee that they do, we’re all for.”
This trip is one of many trips that Crimson Cup has already made, but this will be the first time Julie will be making a trip like this to help Crimson and the farmers firsthand.
The important thing to remember is… that this would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the great people who made a difference in donating when they bought a cup of coffee.
“Our customers have helped tremendously with what they’re doing to support these coffee farmers, who in return give us the products, so we can give it back to you guys.”
One of the reasons why Scioto Valley did this was to help their customers feel involved in what they’re doing as a small Mom n’ Pop shop – especially with Crimson Coffee being a bigger corporate helping out.
“I think it puts value in their cup of coffee,” Julie admitted, adding that the knowledge of knowing that their money was going to make a difference somewhere made a huge difference.
