Local organization receives $100,000 grant

Octagon House Dinner at the Downs

Octagon House Dinner at the Downs

In 2006, the Roundtown Conservancy started the process of getting what would become a huge blessing for the restoration of the Octagon House. With the assistance of John Kerry, a representative in Ohio, they began the process of getting a grant for a hundred thousand dollars.

It took filling out a lot of paperwork, explaining what the funds would be used towards, and hard work.

On August 25th, president of the Roundtown Conservancy, Stephanie Sharpnack, had some exciting news to share.

The news came just in time for the Roundtown Conservancy’s yearly Octagon Dinner at the Downs – a dinner event held in the Hampton Inn side of Scioto Downs. People gathered for great food from PB&J Catering, an update on the Octagon House from Heritage Architectural Associates, and a silent auction.

The big announcement from Stephanie was a surprise, and needless to say it left the event buzzing with excitement.

“It’s been a very, very long road,” Stephanie shared, in regard to the process of the grant.

“We found out just Thursday [August 22nd], that we have done everything that needed to be done and that we have been approved for the $100,000.” she relayed this news to a very excited crowd, where the announcement was met with applause.

After the excitement quieted down, Stephanie had one last thing she wanted to put out there: “Just watch for things to get done at the Octagon. Because now, we’ll actually see stuff. We won’t be in a state of ‘Repair this before it gets worse.’ We’re actually going to do stuff.”
