#1 New York Times bestselling author, R.J. Palacio, of the book Wonder will be visiting Pickaway County as part of the 2019 Pickaway County One Book One Community program.
Wonder is the story of Auggie Pullman, a boy born with a facial deformity who doesn’t blend in because he was born to stand out. The book was made into a major motion picture starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson and is soon to be adapted into a Broadway musical. The book itself has been on the New York Times bestseller list for seven consecutive years and has sold over 16 million copies worldwide.
The 2019 One Book, One Community program focuses on the community reading the book Wonder and further promoting acts of kindness and inclusion in Pickaway County. Along with book discussion, this program included a precept contest, logo contest a “Share Your Story” workshop, as well as community cupboards and kindness cards being placed in the community.

The One Book, One Community program is sponsored by the Pickaway County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the Pickaway County Library, and the Pickaway County Community Foundation.
Palacio’s other bestselling books include 365 Days of Wonder: Mr. Browne’s Book of Precepts, Auggie & Me: Three Wonder Stories, the picture book We’re All Wonders, and the just published White Bird, which Kirkus calls, “A must-read graphic novel that is both heart-rending and beautifully hopeful,” in a starred review.
Author R.J. Palacio will be speaking about the book and the importance of inclusion on Monday, November 4th at Circleville High School at 6:00 pm. Doors will open at 5:15 pm. Books will be available for purchase at the event and Ms. Palacio will be signing books after speaking
