Happy palindrome day – the first one in over 900 years

Happy palindrome day

Happy palindrome day

First you may be wondering, “What in the world is palindrome?”  According to Wikipededia, “A palindrome is a word, number, phrase, or other sequence of characters which reads the same backward as forward, such as madam, racecar, or the number 10801.”  In this instance today’s date, 02/02/2020, is the same backward as it is forward.  Nor just in the US, but on an international level too. How cool is that?

The last time there was an international “palindrome date” was all the way back on 11/11/1111 and the next time it happens again will be 12/12/2121 which will probably be after most of us have moved on to better things.

Back in 2019 you may recall palindrome week when 9/10/19, 9/11/19 and so on, but they did not include the “20” in 2019 back then.  Today it includes the complete date and on an international level of:

Since it is probably your only chance to experience an international “palindrome day” in your lifetime, how will you spend it?  Seriously, it must be a lucky day.  With both Buckeye Chuck and Punxsutawney Phil seeing their shadows today (declaring an early start of Spring) it must at least be a “good vibe” kind of day.

UPDATE 02/04/2020: George Sauer, from Circleville Boardgaming Group, points out that in the US we actually have another palindrome day coming up next year with 12/02/2021.  Most dates in the rest of the world will still have to wait longer, but because of the way we traditionally list dates it will be a little closer.  Excellent!  Here in the US we don’t have to wait as long as we thought or as long as everyone else.

George and other local boardgamers also provide articles about various boardgames for the Dimple Times so be sure to check those out too.
