Local boy uses birthday to give back to others

Kyler's birthday food donation drive

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (Dimple Times) – Birthday’s are a time for celebration – but what if you used your birthday to celebrate someone other than yourself?

Kyler is a nine-year-old boy who was presented with the opportunity to do something different for his birthday one day just a few short years ago.

“He heard of his friend doing donations instead of presents and, asked ‘Why anyone would want to do that?’” Kyler’s mother, Allanah Brady disclosed.

Kyler’s mother admitted that they worked to figure out a way to help Kyler understand of how giving can often times be better than being on the receiving end… and it resulted in Kyler starting up something wonderful.

“Kyler could ask for presents and, I would happily put them in the back of my mini van and, take them home to be forgotten.” Allanah admitted, going on to explain: “To me this is a way for him to build community partnerships, and to create value from something that typically has none. So loading my van full of non-perishable goods and, taking Kyler to donate them is just me supporting something that he is passionate about and, can find value in.”

When asked if there was an inspiring moment that stood out to her, Allanah stated: “Not just one moment sticks out to me but, dozens of moments. From the abundance of support his family, and friends have given the last five years donating food from their homes and asking their friends to donate. To this year with support coming from our business neighbor volunteering his establishment as a drop off location, complete strangers asking how they can help Kyler reach his goal, and the overwhelming support our community has given in helping him on his mission to make food more accessible to those who do not have it.”

It’s clear that Kyler’s kind heart has inspired a movement to take place every year – one that benefits the individuals of this community. If Kyler were to sum up an encouragement for those interested in giving back on their birthday, Allanah admits that Kyler would tell them to just, “Go for it!”

“Kyler would tell them that if they see someone, or something in their community that they can improve they should go for it because it is the right thing to do. I would encourage them to find something that they are passionate about, and the desire to help will come naturally.” she shared.

Allanah explained that Kyler goes wrestling (qualified for state not too long ago). Also plays baseball, soccer, and basketball. His favorite things to do are to play outside with his friends, go on bike rides with his family, and play Fortnite. Kyler is adventurous, and loves camping outdoors, swimming, and hiking. He is tremendously kind and empathetic.
