LANCASTER, CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (Dimple Times) Joann Fabric and Craft stores across the country are offering resources, supplies, instructions, and encouragement on how to make face masks for local hospitals. With the shortage of face masks,  Joann is giving shoppers and crafters the chance to help alleviate the stress on the lack of face masks by giving them the supplies needed to make masks on their own.

“We noticed groups of people in the crafting and sewing communities making protective masks, gowns and other essential items and donating them to hospitals and health care facilities, and we wanted to help them do even more. As a company, we were inspired by our customers who are pitching in during this unprecedented crisis, and we wanted to do what we can to contribute.” Joann’s shared in a tab on their website.

On their website, they’ve provided a sewing pattern that follows other face mask designs, as well as video tutorials, picture tutorials, and other details about what’s needed to make these masks.

There are some concerns about gathering in public places with the COVID-19 virus, but Joann’s is keeping up with the rules of social distancing and is ensuring both employees and crafters safety by limiting how many can be in the Creator’s Studio at one time. Likewise, they’re offering resources online for crafters to make the face masks at home. In a statement on their website, Joann shares: “Teams in our stores will be on hand to ensure we are following government-recommended social distancing guidance. And we will routinely sanitize our work areas and keep the equipment clean. In addition, we are giving people the option of making the items in their own homes, following patterns and instruction we are providing.”

Joann Fabrics located in Chillicothe and Lancaster, Ohio are a part of this program, as well as other Joann Fabrics across Ohio.
