CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (Dimple Times) – A local woman reached out to the Circleville Police officers to visit during her daughter’s small birthday party and in return ended up getting a big surprise. Three police vehicles showed up with their lights on as each officer wished the little girl a happy birthday. One officer even went as far as to sing the little girl happy birthday.

Melyssa Kelly, the mother of this little birthday girl, was absolutely moved by the way the community went above and beyond in responding. Little Aspen sat outside on a lawn chair yesterday with a cute sign that read: “Honk! Happy Birthday, Aspen is two today!” The sign attracted some thoughtful and generous attention from the community.

“During this difficult time we are living in it lightened my heart with the kindness of Circleville police department and the citizens of Circleville who brightened my daughter’s special day. I appreciated all the caring and kindness everyone showed to make my daughter’s birthday a happy one.” Melyssa shared with us.

Officer Ryan Speakman was one of the officers who visited Aspen for her birthday yesterday, and he shares similar thoughts with Melyssa on how right now, it’s the little acts of kindness during a difficult time like this that can make all the difference in the world.

“You know, just the small things like that that you can do for your community, such as going down there and just simply telling a two-year-old, ‘Happy birthday’ and just making her day, making her mother’s day and you know, something like that in the time like we’re in right now just definitely lifts my spirits up,” Officer Speakman admitted.

The goal for the Circleville Police Department was to make little Aspen’s day but in the end, this turned out to be a situation that brought a little joy to the community of Circleville.

“The biggest thing I think to take from this, you know, is just maybe giving somebody a little bit of hope that you know times, they’re going to get better.” Officer Speakman closed.
