The Broken Road Trilogy By Richard Paul Evans – Book Review

The Broken Road Trilogy book review

The Broken Road Trilogy book review

The first book in this 3-book trilogy is called The Broken Road. The story is about a man, Charles James, who is presumed dead after a major airline crash in Chicago. Instead of letting the authorities and others know that he is alive he sets out on an inspirational pilgrimage across the country. Charles has a reoccurring dream of himself walking down a road lined with fire, but is he running from something or is the fire leading him somewhere? He just doesn’t know. With a knapsack of a few provisions and some cash, Charles sets out walking from his home in Chicago on the famous Route 66. Making his way across several states, meeting a collection of interesting people, learning their stories of sorrow and pain, all while reminiscing about his own life.

He grew up in a poverty-stricken home managing to graduate from high school and find a blue-collar job. On a chance meeting he moves into the world of infomercials amassing his own fortune. After one bad decision his marriage falls apart. However, he considers that loss insignificant as his business has always come first.

As Charles walks his way down the historical Route 66, he wonders if he will learn the ‘why’ behind this reoccurring dream? What does the road of fire mean? Will he reach the end of Route 66, his in California, without anyone recognizing him? As he walks from state to state meeting various people, he learns valuable lessons of love and kindness, with reminders of God’s strength in times of trouble. I found Book 1 so engaging that I had to immediately get a copy of book 2 (The Forgotten Road) and book 3 (The Road Home) to read. I hope you find this series as interesting and inspiring as I did.
