Childhood pictures
flash in my mind.
As young as five
sitting at the dining room table,
a family
playing board games like
monopoly, chutes-and-ladders, scrabble and yahtzee,
the action ones like
dont break the ice, kerplunk, dont spill the beans, and rock-m-sock-m robots,
giggling as we each lost.
Gathering around the tube
favorite snack in hand,
watching Neil Armstrong
take his first step,
remembering the moment
colors first flashed upon the screen.
Those Sunday drives
to nowhere,
sweet aroma from the bakery
waiting anxiously for the clock to turn to four
the exact moment
fresh baked cookies and donuts
would be removed
from the sweltering hot oven.
Picking wild strawberries
along the old railroad tracks
in the wee hours of the morning
during the month of May.
Those magical moments
lessons were taught,
appreciate ones family
making moments count.
Smiling within,
each memory I cherish,
thankful for my perfect examples,
Mother and Father.
