Car and Tractor Show at Octagon House

This year has proven to be a challenge in so many ways.  It’s been like a bad dream that just seems to have too many sequels that always feel like “this can’t really be reality”.  One of the challenges has been for non-profits to find unique and safe ways to raise funds for operating budgets.  As a trustee on the board of the Roundtown Conservancy it has been no different. You may not recognize the name, but you have probably seen the Octagon House that they moved a little over 15 years ago with ongoing efforts to raise funds to first maintain and now they’ve started to receive state grants, restore the historical structure.

“Over the years the organization has met a variety of challenges but nothing has been even close to the challenges of 2020,” says James Esteph, RTC trustee.  “As with most non-profits and profits when you are unable to even open your doors it makes it impossible to make money,” he continues.  Esteph says, “At this point we are moving forward with the car and tractor show even thought most events this summer have been getting canceled. We believe it will be easy to social distance while we are outside.” 

The only thing being questioned are the tours of inside the Octagon House.  On the Facebook event page they were, “trying to gather thoughts on having the event outside the Octagon but not actually allowing tours. The reason is, the new mask mandate. During this month the house is already hot enough and to require people and those giving the tours to wear mask makes it quite difficult.”  With that being said the inside tours may be limited as they are not only short-staffed, but it is HOT inside the Octagon.
