Two ways Wi-fi has changed our lives for the better

Once upon a time, we didn’t have Wi-Fi. If you wanted to go online to browse the internet, download a document, read – or answer – an email, you had to dial-up, which meant not using the landline phone and paying an extortionate amount of money for the privilege.

We are incredibly lucky now things have changed and having Wi-Fi means none of this now has to happen. If you want to be online, you can be online, and it won’t cause any problems. It’s instant. It’s constant. In most cases you don’t even need to think about it unless something has gone wrong and the Wi-Fi is down for some reason.

Wi-Fi really has changed our lives in many positive ways. Read on to discover just some of them – but there are plenty more besides.

Money Saving

Before Wi-Fi, dial-up internet used to cost a lot of money. You generally had to pay per minute, and would often need to cap your time online as it would just become too expensive to use. Wi-Fi has changed all that. Now there is a fixed price per month and, subject to download limits if you have them in your contract, you can be online for as long as you want with no additional charges. Compared to the past, Wi-Fi means you can save a considerable amount of money per month, and it ensures the internet is open to all.

Yet Wi-Fi hasn’t just saved us money on our utility bills. It’s saved us money on our shopping too. Being able to shop online is something that many of us enjoy; it is convenient, easy, and there is a lot of choice. The choice comes from the fact that more and more businesses are starting up and offering online purchases. Why is this? It’s because Wi-Fi has made it possible. Add to this the fact that, thanks to all this choice, online prices are often lower, and we don’t have to spend any money on bus tickets or gas to get to the mall or stores, and we’re saving even more cash, even with shipping charges to consider.

Entertainment

“There is a revolution happening, and within two years I think that Wi-Fi and Netflix will be built into all the televisions.” – Reed Hastings (founder of Netflix).

Over the past few months, the entertainment the internet can bring us has been brought into sharp focus. With over 192.95 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix is hugely popular, as are most streaming services you can find. Then there are the podcasts and the video sites, and so much more. When it comes to entertainment, the internet just can’t be beaten. No matter what custom cable assemblies you might need, they will always be available, giving you ample opportunity to enjoy your downtime like never before.

It’s Wi-Fi that allows for this. It may not seem like it, but being able to stream movies, podcasts, radio stations, and games through your TV, tablet, or even phone is relatively new, and without Wi-Fi it would be impossible.

Conclusion

Without Wi-Fi, the world would keep turning; no one would dispute this. Yet the fact that it can bring so much to so many means that it is vital, and something we should never take for granted.
