Warm, orange arrows of sunlight
beam through her windows,
taunting her to step outside without a jacket.
She shivers in the cold brisk air,
feeling a surge of adrenaline rush through her slender, petite body
as she hurriedly hops into her silver pontiac
turning the thermostat to high.
She takes a leisurely drive through the nearby countryside,
perceiving the vast difference of the tree foliage
with bright colored leaves, each one a different hue.
She wonders why humans can not go dormant,
hibernating in the winter months
bursting forth in the spring
with a new zest for life,
starting over like fresh buds on a twig.
Healing their bodies
while they spend the winter asleep,
waking up refreshed
ready to take on each moment,
remembering to stop and smell the roses.
No longer taking moments in life for granted,
appreciating the efforts of others,
enjoying time with loved ones,
no longer underestimating
the time they have left.
