Same But Different

Same but different boardgame review

Same but different boardgame review

Two great fun games are very similar but very different.

TIMELINES by ASMODEE

Timeline is a simple game. The object is to play all of their cards before their opponents.

First each player is dealt 4 cards and one is dealt to the center. Without looking at the back of the card that has the answer the player reads the event on the front and decides if it belongs before or after the event on the board.  If you are correct, you are down a card. If incorrect, you draw another card.  We all know that Dinosaurs would be to the left of walking on the moon … But do you put the First Appearance of SUPERHEROS before or after the FIRST SOLO CROSSING of the ATLANTIC? There are multiple versions of TIMLELINE featuring Events / Inventions and others. All play the same and all can be combined into a massive game. Fun game for all ages, and we all might learn something new. And yes the Solo Crossing of the Atlantic came about a decade before the first SuperHero was created!

ILLUSION by Pandasaurus Games

ILLUSIONS uses nearly the same system of play of TIMELINES but is different. Again ONE game card is placed in the center of the table. Then a card with a color on it is drawn to determine the active color for this turn.

On a player’s turn they draw a card and look at it and then place the card to the left or right of the one on the board based on if it has more or less of the “active” color on it than the one on the board. There are four possible active colors Red/Yellow/Green/Blue and a deck of nearly 100 cards with stunning patterns on the to test you every turn of the card. The games play is very similar but also are very different.

BOTH TIMELINE and ILLUSIONS are great fun short family type games that play quickly and can be used as fillers or warmups or winddowns for your game sessions.
