The must haves for ideal outdoor living

Spring is here, which is why more and more of us can be looking forward to warmer weather and being outdoors much more. Creating a space that is welcoming, looks good, but is also functional is a must for any family backyard and patio area, regardless of the size that you have to work with. There are definitely a couple of bits and pieces that are going to make a difference to the space that will really help you to make the most of it.

You might think that you need to have a large budget in order to get a patio area looking as you’d like it, but that is definitely not the case. From DIY options to affordable options, you can have your outside looking as you want it, providing comfort and fun, with all of our inspiration. Here are some of the things to think about.

Seating

One of the number one options for a family backyard or patio area is having enough seating. If there isn’t anywhere to sit and rest, then the chances are that you will spend very little time out there. The backyard or patio should be an extension of the home and as a result, should be treated like that. You could choose outdoor sofas, wood Adirondack chairs, metal patio table and chairs, or whatever other styles you would like. When you do so, you will create a space that is comfortable, welcoming, and a great space to entertain.

Lighting

If you plan to use the outside space more during the day, then you may not need any additional lighting. However, if you want to use it into the evenings, then having some additional lighting can really make a difference. You could get string lights to display on fences or a pergola. As well as fixed lamps for a patio or that can be stuck into the grass. Solar-powered lighting is usually the best thing to be looking for, so that they can charge all day and work during the night. Otherwise, getting an outdoor plug socket could be the way to go.

Dining Area

There are very few things that can bring a group of people together more than dining together. In the summer, when there are BBQs and parties, dining outdoors can be wonderful. But of course, to make that a success, you need to have somewhere to have as an outdoor dining space. You may think about something like a small bistro-style table if you are short on space, or you could choose a folding table or something more sturdy.

Shade

When the weather is hot, being right in the heat of the day can be quite unpleasant and if you don’t have enough shade, will put you off wanting to be outside. You can get sun shades that can be fixed to your house and are retractable, or you can get weighted umbrella shades or a traditional parasol shade. Just think of the space that you have and the direction that the sun faces for the majority of the time, and then you can go from there.
