The Mystery of the magic color changes

When the kids were younger I tried to show them how to do things like wash dishes, do the laundry or anything that they would help show them what being a part of a family was like. Sometimes it was filling the sink with water and giving them a scrub brush or wash cloth to wash a few dishes, or having them help me move clothes from the washer to the dryer. Simple projects that were giving them something to do and help them feel important, and also because they were learning something too. One of the tasks they were helping me out with was the laundry. I couldn’t figure out why the clothes repeatedly came out of the washer all clean, but when they came out of the dryer they had spots on some of them, especially the lighter colors. The bad part is that when clothes go through the dryer with the spots, they would be set in as stains. I kept watching and hoping that I would figure it out before too many clothes were stained. One day, when he was helping me put laundry in the dryer, Caleb had thrown one of his toys into the dryer with the clothes because he had been holding it. I pulled the clothes back out of the dryer and found a couple crayons in with the mix. The mysterious spots, or the magic color changes, on the clothes were no longer a mystery. I don’t know how many loads were dried with crayons before we figured it out, but I would have rather had those colors on paper than on our clothes. I am thankful to remember the unusual situations like the “mysterious stains” on our laundry because it means I have memories from their childhood.
