Sometimes things come back to bite you in the butt

Sometimes things come back to bite you in the butt

I remember how my kids loved when they found out we were going to have a new little baby. They always seemed to love having a new addition to the family. Maybe part of that excitement for the current youngest child is that there would be one younger than them in the family. I always tried to include the rest of the kids in helping with the new little baby. As our family grew, there were more than enough older siblings to help with the younger ones. After my fifth child was born, there was a little more competition to see or help take care of the new baby.

I remember one morning when Isaac was in the bassinet and Rachel would have been about a year and nine months old, and she had been wanting to see the baby. Lauren was about nine years old, Jimmy was about five years old, Caleb was about 3 years old. Rachel was the youngest and smallest one, and I remember she was trying to see the new baby amid the crowd of bigger siblings. She was getting frustrated with her inability to see past her taller siblings, so I guess she thought the way to resolve the situation was to “nip it in the bud” or in this case, “butt”. I guess because Lauren was the oldest and tallest, Rachel decided that was who she was going to take her frustration out on. I still remember Lauren saying, with tears in her eyes, “Rachel bit me in the butt”. This was one of those times that really caught us all by surprise because Rachel was an easy-going child and didn’t do things like that. You know you can’t laugh, because you don’t want your children to think it is funny or an acceptable thing to do! Lauren’s tone of voice, added to her statement “Rachel bit me in the butt” just sounded a little humorous.

We have had two more babies after Isaac. While Rachel had never bitten anyone before that, and never did again after that, I am relieved it was a one time thing. On a lighter note, at least this is one of those things that never came back to bite her in the butt…yet.
