Do you love SCRABBLE? Do you love trying to figure out where to put those letters to get the most points for your word? Do you have that knack of seeing a jumble of letters and words just pop out? Well I do not, mix letters up and heck I find it hard to find simple three-letter words. BUT, I do like SCRABBLE, I just suck at it.

Then came QUINTO. It’s SCRABBLE with numbers. This is a golden oldie game. Published in 1964. So, ONLY 56 years old.

The game is very simple – you always have 5 tiles in your hand with the numbers from 0 to 9 on them. On your turn, you can place from 1 to 5 of them onto the board … The only rule is that the TOTAL of your row or column must end in a zero or 5, and your score will be the total of your row or column. AND no row or column can have more than five tiles.

The trick like in SCRABBLE in getting the big points is if you can combine your placement with that of others using their tiles to really boost your scores.

I see numbers not letters. If you are like me, QUINTO is one of those games that deserves to be in your collection. It is a little bit hard to find, but if you are a number person and always cringe when SCRABBLE hits the table … you can then bring out QUINTO and watch your friends shudder at the thought of numbers and math!!!
