Making your wedding event unique to you

It’s interesting to see the differing philosophies at play when wedding planners book an event and guide a couple along that process. Of course, sometimes a couple and their wider extended support group will take the time to plan every part of this event themselves, which can also lead to a fantastic outcome.

That said, depending on the tastes and sensibilities of those planning the event, the outcome can look dramatically different from couple to couple. Some people value tradition and the ‘usual’ means by which a wedding event will play out. After all, these efforts are so ubiquitous for a reason – because they work, bring a sense of coherence to your event, and is the most enjoyable manner in which to process and experience the day. Some people, however, also prefer to try something totally new depending on how much this inconveniences their guests, such as getting married abroad, doing so on a beach, or even bungee jumping after the service.

What matters is making your wedding event unique to you, to the degree you feel comfortable with. Let’s discuss how to achieve that:

The Minor Trimmings

The minor trimmings can have a great visual impact, but will rarely intrude on a space too much. For this reason, it can be nice to have those tasks delegated to those in your planning party, to be approved by you. This might include the rings used to hold napkins, the tablecloth, the centerpiece of each table, and little adornments or ornaments you might find appropriate. These little additions can add a lovely touch, without making or breaking your wedding either way.

The Seating Plan

It can be nice to have some input on the seating plan that you design, because often this can define the entire experience of your wedding to begin with. Who may feel comfortable sat next to who, how you might introduce people to the dining space in stages, and of course, what proximity to the main table the most important guests at the celebratory event can enjoy. This allows a wedding feast to run much more smoothly, and as you may not have a total understanding of the social relationships of everyone in your family, it can be nice to ask for a little input here.

Entertainment Tastes

It’s always nice to consider how entertainment can define your wedding. It might be that you bring along a DJ, or even something notable such as a professional showcasing their craft, providing refreshments, or mixing cocktails. The most important thing to get right, however, is the wedding band. Finding one you love can be determined by a few parameters – such as how familiar with weddings are they? Are they family friendly? What kind of music do they enjoy playing, and what do you prefer to listen? What are their rates, and how long will you hire them for? Asking those questions can help you secure your own entertainment, no matter how unique such acts may be.

With this advice, you’re sure to make your wedding event unique to you, in all ways.
