NOVA LUNA by Stronghold Games

NOVA LUNA is a tile laying game about building connections of colored tiles. The game is for 1 to 4 players and plays in about 30 minutes.

The tiles are placed randomly about a clock like feature with twelve showing. Each tile is one of four colors, and on each tile there are up to three possible combinations that you will try to build using that tile in a connection with others. So a yellow tile may have a combination printed on it of say three blue dots. That would mean for that tile to “score” you would need to connect three blue tiles orthogonally to the yellow tile. (A new word for all of us … ORTHOGONALLY is up and down and left and right – NOT diagonally) If you at some point in placing the tiles complete that goal, then you mark it. The first person to mark a certain number of goals based on the number of players in the game wins the game.

Each tile also has a “timing” element – simple goal tiles that are easier to complete or have multiple goals on it are valued at a higher value. You move your marker around the track equal to the value of the tile you took, and you do not get to take another turn until you are at the end of the pack. So if you take a high value, say a 7 tile, you move up seven then if the next person takes a three value tile and move their maker up three spaces – they would get to go again as they are the farthest behind the pack. So it is often hard to decide if you want to take a high value tile and let others possibly get two turns before you go again, or to take lesser value tiles but maybe get more of them. A simple mechanism that adds a critical element to the game.
