The importance of proper packaging for small businesses

The unboxing experience for customers matters. You’ll find waves of content on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube of customers showing off their unboxing experience. This can include small businesses and large businesses. Customers love having a nice unboxing experience, and this alone will get them coming back for you.

Whether you’re working in retail, eCommerce, or even working remotely, you can’t neglect the unboxing experience if you’re selling a physical product. The unboxing experience can make customers feel special, and it can get flocks of customers purchasing your products, so they can have this luxurious experience. Here are some helpful tips for improving your customer experience through product packaging.

Why exactly does product packaging matter?

It doesn’t really matter what type of physical product you’re selling, whether it be a doob tube or anything else. Customers want to have a pleasant experience when purchasing and receiving their products. They like to know that their order was handled with care. Think about major companies like Amazon. You’ve most likely ordered with them before, right?

You probably noticed that there isn’t really an unboxing experience with most of the products, not even Amazon Choice products. They’re all thrown in there with some bad-smelling bad paper. There isn’t even any cushioning. Customers like to know that they matter and that your business needs them. That’s why taking time out to focus on their products truly matters.

In general, you want the customer to know how important they are, a little can go a long way. Customer expectations are getting higher and higher, and they should be reached. Customers don’t mind going to another company if it means that they get what they want. There are some great ways to help with product packaging and even the unboxing experience.

Product Packaging Ideas for Your Customers

Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to set up nice product packaging for your customers.  Some of these ideas can really leave a great impression on customers.

Thank you card or note

This doesn’t need to be a handwritten thank-you note, but just something such as a template can be excellent. Just thank your customer (whether you want to do it by name or not), and tell them that you appreciate their service. You can even go on and talk about how your customers are important and how they make up your business. You just want your customer to know that their purchase was important to you.

Adding freebies or coupons

Customers love getting freebies and even coupons with their orders. This not only can instill more trust and a better reputation for you, but it can be very encouraging for the customer to come back and shop with you. This freebie can be something small like a branded sticker, or even a miniature version of one of your products. As for coupons, they can be a great way to get customers to come back to purchase from you again. One great coupon could mention “10 dollars off your next order if you spend $25 or more, use code (blank)”. If the customer had a great experience with your shop and likes the product then there is a higher chance of getting an additional order from them.
