Need some screen-free time? Hobbies to keep you busy

If you are a fan of movies, box sets, and video games, it is pretty likely that you spend a lot of your time looking at a screen. If you have a home office and have been working a lot the past couple of years, you probably find that almost all of your day, evenings, and sometimes nights revolve around looking at a screen. But, while it is great to have so many different options for work and leisure time accessible to you, occasionally, you may find yourself needing a break from staring at a screen all day. If you are looking for some alternative hobbies to tear you away from your tech, then why not give a few of these suggestions a try?

Challenge Your Brain

Keeping your brain active is valuable at every age, but is a really useful opportunity to protect your mind as you age. Playing video games can be an excellent way to improve your problem-solving skills and develop perseverance. However, there are other ways that you can keep your brain active. Puzzle books are packed full of challenging content to help you keep your mind engaged and practice your logical thinking. So, having a look for crossword puzzle books for sale and ordering some to try for yourself is a beneficial way to stay occupied when enjoying some screen-free time.

Get Reading

Reading is a hobby that offers a vast range of benefits. Reading can help to reduce your stress levels, help to enrich your understanding of the world and learn lots of new things without even leaving your home. If you are someone that often struggles to sleep, swapping screen time for reading could bring significant benefits. Screentime before bedtime is believed to have an adverse impact on sleep. The blue light emitted by screens has been shown to interfere with the body’s production of melatonin, which controls the natural sleep cycle, so putting down your tech and picking up a book is a great way to prepare yourself for sleep.

Play Sports

Spending lots of time indoors hunched over a screen can be bad for your posture and is not great for your wellbeing. Too much time spent indoors can mean you get very little fresh air and have few opportunities to be in the sunlight to get a healthy dose of vitamin D. So, taking the chance to get a hobby that takes you outside and into the fresh air could provide you with the change of scenery you need. Increasing your exercise levels is especially important if you have a sedentary job and the rest of your leisure time is also inactive.

Joining a team and playing sports will give you the chance to move your body and enjoy the health benefits that come from being active while having fun at the same time. So switching video games for physical games on the sports field can be an excellent swap to make sometimes and will undoubtedly help you to be healthier.
