Pickaway County Food Trucks and Family Fun Fest 2019

Pickaway County Food Trucks and Family Fun Fest 2019

The Pickaway County Food Truck and Family Fun Fest is a great, free activity for all ages! Happening on August 10th, you will have a chance to stop down and try delicious foods from 11 different food truck vendors, hear live music from Marty Hayes and X-PERIENCE MUSIC / STUDIO ONE!  Live DJ music will be provided by Roundtown Radio from 11am-1pm.

While there is a great amount of food truck vendors coming that you’ll be seeing tomorrow, we started to wonder – what lead them to open up their business? We were able to catch up with a few of them and get their thoughts as to what inspired them to take the leap in opening their own food truck.

Da Que LLC

Amanda and Dwayne are the owners of Da Que LLC, which is their very own food truck and catering business – originally from Amanda. Amanda was willing to share how their business began.

“My husbands’ father asked to do a hog roast. After they built a smoker, they did a hog roast and it was fabulous. Another person asked my husband to do a hog roast, and as he grew, he started smoking different items. And as we did private events for family members, they kept encouraging us to open a restaurant, a food truck, or something. So three years ago we decided to give it a try!” she explained about their beginnings.

Taesty’s

Another food truck vendor from tomorrows event, Taesty’s very own Tae Spell, shared with us: “I always wanted to actually open up a storefront, brick or mortar, or a food truck – but the inspiration truly came from just a background of being from North Carolina, having something southern-inspired, while having a little dab of Ohioan.”

Yumii Kettle Corn

Rachel Flaherty of Yumii Kettle Corn shared that their venture started with the New Albany Classic – and from there, things just grew!

“We started around with a golf cart that had drinks and kettle corn on it,” she shared, where they started at an event in New Albany, “We were constantly selling out [of kettle corn]. From there, it grew. We were under a tent, rented a U-Haul, then we got a food trailer, and then a truck.” she explained.

Paddy Wagon

Paddy Wagon has been around since 2010, at the time food trucks were not a revelation – but that did not stop “the Sheriff” Zach James from opening his own!

“For me, it was the opportunity to explore a creative outlet and have a little bit of mobility, get into a business of my own at a level of cost that I had access to,” he admitted.

Chubby Bubby’s BBQ

Last but not least, Scott Woodland of Chubby Bubby’s BBQ shared the inspiration that he and his buddies had for opening their own business: “My other partners and I, we just kind of threw it out there about opening up a food truck, just like: ‘Yeah, I think we can do that.’ It was just a little conversation that grew into an inspiration to start our own business together.”
