This month I had the opportunity to speak with Linda Johnson, the Executive Director of Haven House of Pickaway County, Inc. Linda shared information about the mission of Haven House, their needs and the different ways each of us can help further their mission.
The Haven House of Pickaway County Inc. provides services and shelter to victims of domestic violence and to homeless women and children, most of whom have been victims in the past. Their main goal for all individuals and families is permanent housing where violence is not a part of their daily life. “Our clients work with Case Managers to identify the barriers of permanent housing, and then seek resources to remove those barriers.” Linda states. “The barriers can be from unable to get employment; no childcare, drug and alcohol dependency, low functioning skills; no transportation; financing; etc.” Whatever the barrier is, Haven House seeks to assist in removing those barriers and to eventually moving them into permanent housing.
Funding for The Haven House of Pickaway County Inc. is through the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, the Office of Criminal Justice Services, government grants and by statute through the County Commissioners, through United Way of Pickaway County, and through private and corporate donations.

When asked about their most urgent needs, Linda gave the following answer: “Our current need is to accomplish our goal for our Capital Campaign to complete our new facility; and our general need are donations of new items and toiletries that you might use in your home such as toilet paper, paper towels, laundry supplies, cleaning products – everything you use in your house, we use thirty times that.”
If you’re looking for ideas to help the Haven House better what it already does for the community, they ask that you continue to support them – through donations, volunteers for special projects and getting the information out of what services they have available, not only within the shelter but throughout the community.
