With sparkling eyes
and excited heart,
her bags packed
for a destination unknown.
The open road
awaits her
for the first time
since six thousand
and seventy days.
July fireworks at every turn
with no vacancy in hotels,
desperate messages left
in hopes of finding
one last cabin by the lake.

Weary, hungry with no where to stay,
stumbling upon a cozy diner
hidden from the roads’ way,
sigh of relief
legs outstretched,
thankful for a place to rest.
