So you may have just bought a fish tank, or you’re strongly thinking about getting a pet, but you don’t know what type. Either way, you need to look into some of the fish that are best for beginners. If you don’t then you may end up committing to something that requires more care than you can provide, and this is the last thing that you want. If you want to find out more, simply look below.

Guppy

The Guppy fish is known all across the world. It’s mainly bred in captivity, but it is a great beginner fish. It’s also a very cheap fish to buy. If you want a nice and colorful aquarium, then you should know that the guppy is a very lively fish, and it is available in a huge range of vibrant tones. The peaceful temperament makes it the ideal fish if you are not experienced, and they are not picky eaters at all. They can easily eat most food without anything being detrimental to their health. If you want a nice and exciting fish then you may think that the spotted Congo is a better option, but these fish do require more care, and they also require specialist living requirements, so it’s best to start out simpler and then work your way up.

Molly

The Molly fish is otherwise known as the Common Molly. They have a very passive temperament, and they are also very easy to adjust to a new aquarium. They are available pretty much anywhere and another bonus is that they have a large color scheme too. Likewise, they are playful and very good starter fish. If you are concerned about space requirements then you should know that these fish only grow up to 5 inches, so they only need a 20-gallon tank. They also need hard alkaline water.

Zebra Danios

Zebra fish are native to the Himalayan region. They have a very distinctive pattern, and they are optimal for any novice keepers. If you know how to set up a tank then you should have no issue in bringing one of these home. They are very cheap, but you should know that they are schooling fish. This means that if they do not have their own community than they may well grow stressed and agitated. They also have the natural ability to school in huge numbers so if you have a very aqua-scaped environment then they can look absolutely stunning.

Dwarf Gouramis

The Dwarf Gourami is one of the smaller species of fish out there, and they are very shy. They are a Labyrinth fish, and this means that they breathe directly from the air. You need to give them required access to the surface. The breed is very high in demand, and they have a powder blue or even flame red rainbow pattern. The fish has a very low mortality rate, and they generally don’t need much help when it comes to surviving over 5 years. If you want a nice mix of fish, this one should be on your list.
