She remembers a smoke-filled kitchen
when the adults played penny ante,
after the dishes were washed and dried
on Sunday afternoons at Grandma’s.
The adults eating at the table
while the children took their plates
to a tablecloth on the floor,
inside Granny’s tiny home.
Moments when we all came together
making memories,
taking snapshots,
enjoying life as we knew it.

The days are gone
when tradition was followed,
but the pictures remain
and float back to our hearts
on those sad times when one departs.
