There are times in all our lives when we are put under pressure. It can be pressure from work, family issues, legal troubles, or a million other things. The important thing, when we are under pressure is to work out what we can do to stay calm.

When you are under pressure and you begin to panic or get stressed out, it is only likely to make the situation worse for you, and you will start to panic or make the problem worse as a result.

With all that in mind, here are a few things you can do to stay calm under pressure and come out the other side all the better for it:

Breathe in

Yes, this may sound incredibly trite, but taking a few deep breaths can really help to calm down your body and mind when things are getting tough. It gives you a little space to just focus on lowering your stress levels a d clearing your mind so that when you do come back to the pressurized situation, things will be a bit less fraught.

Focus on what you can do

If you are facing a tough legal situation, think about the things you can do to make it better like filming a sentencing mitigation video, or if you dont have enough money to pay the bills, think about calling up your creditors to ask for some more time to play to give you a bit of breathing space. Basically, when things are tough, think of anything positive and actionable you can do to take the pressure off even just a little bit and you will feel a million times better.

Get outside

Again, this may seem like a pretty asinine suggestion at first, but scientific studies have shown that spending time in nature can lower stress levels, reduce anxiety and depression, and even improve concentration, Sio, its safe to say that, when youre in a pressurized situation, taking time out to walk in the park or go for a long hike in the woods can really help you to get to grips with things. You’ll come back feeling refreshed and ready to face up to your problems.

Talk to someone

Simply talking to someone, whether it be a trained therapist or a trusted friend or family member, about the situation you find yourself in, can release a lot of the built-up pressure and often even help you to work out solutions to the problems you are facing.

Many people bottle everything up out of shame, guilt, or fear, and this only serves to heap even more pressure onto their plates, so dont be afraid to reach out when things are tough.

Staying calm under pressure is something that can be learned, and if you put the above ideas into practice, it will be so much easier for you to stay calm, collected and under control more often, which will almost always make the situation you are facing a whole lot easier to deal with.
