Captain Marvel – Admissions of a Movie Fanatic Review

Synopsis: Captain Marvel is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury, Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls.

There have been a lot of mixed feelings about the upcoming Captain Marvel film, but once I sat down and watched it during an early release – the movie proved to be better than I would have thought. Trailers could not do it justice, it is certainly a movie that is worth seeing on the big screen.

Filled with plot twists, amazing cinematography, familiar and unfamiliar, lovable characters, an incredible storyline and comedy – Captain Marvel is everything.

If you have yet to watch Captain Marvel, I highly recommend you check out the movie before reading any further. There will be spoilers as I try to explain what I loved about everything that took place in Marvels first ever female lead superhero movie.

Let’s start with what really got me interested in checking out the movie – and it had very little to do with the lead hero. I am a huge Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D fan, have been since the day the show aired on television. Before that, I was merely a huge Phil Coulson fan. Clark Gregg has been off the big screen since his character, Phil, was killed off by the movies’ antagonist, Loki.

An outcry from fans made it clear that Phil Coulson was someone that could not be forgotten, Marvel – with the help of ABC – brought the popular character back on a smaller level. S.H.I.E.L.D has been on the air since 2013, with a plan to end with seven seasons.

Captain Marvel gave S.H.I.E.L.D fans a taste of what a younger, innocent, new-to-this-job Coulson would like. While he disappointingly only had ten minutes of screen time, it was enough to make a fan of the TV show smile.

Likewise, having Captain Marvel set in the 1990s gave us a view we have never seen before. Nineties music, Blockbuster videos, payphones are only the tip of the iceberg. It’s the characters that really gave off a different vibe from what we know and love today.

We always knew of Nick Fury as being the harsh, firm, determined S.H.I.E.L.D leader – but throughout the film, we were introduced to a chill, talkative, goofy sidekick kind of vibe.

Fury’s character made the movie fun, which helped to offset the seriousness of what Captain Marvel, known throughout the film as “Vers”, went through. The film shows Vers having flashbacks, which later reveals a plot twist I didn’t see coming.

While there were many things that were awesome about Captain Marvel, the real MVP of the film had to be Goose, the…erm… “cat”.

I’ll just leave it at that and let you figure out what I mean by that when you watch the film.

This movie is a fun watch for all ages, with some dramatic elements that might be a bit much for some

It definitely did a great job at being a tie-in for existing Marvel movies, with nods to Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers and connecting ultimately with the upcoming Marvel movie, Avengers: End Game.

There are two end credit scenes, the first being the most important and vital to the storyline. The second one happens at the very end of all the credits. While it is not as vital as the first, it is still a funny scene. Some may argue that it is not worth sitting through an entire credits roll, but die-hard Marvel fans will do it anyways.
