While youre sprucing up for Spring, keep in mind that its going to be too long before the heatwaves start rolling in. If this Summer is anything like the past few years, then we are in for a hot one, to put it mildly. Your home might not be prepared for the heat. If youre sick of sweltering indoors, is retreating outside your only option? What else can you do?

Keep the windows closed

While you might be opting for lighter window treatments to let more natural light in the home, you have to make sure that youre able to keep them nice and shut off when the sun is at its strongest. Leaving the windows open will let the heat inside your home freely. The more light in the house, the more heat as well, so you might want to invest in blackout blinds that can offer you the light that you want when you want it but can also be closed to protect the interior from the heat that comes with it.

Keep the airflow up

The more that the air tends to settle, the more hot, humid, and cloying it can feel. Relying on fans can help cool you down, but it can also keep the air fresh and make sure fresh air is getting circulated into the room on a regular basis. Aside from ceiling fans and standing fans, you might want to look more closely at things like whole-house fans. Make sure that any fans and ventilation in the home are cleared of dust, as well, or its going to get kicked all around the home.

Keep the outdoors out

Most of the heat that you experience in the summer is going to be coming inside from outside, directly from the sunlight. Hence, why its recommended that you keep your windows closed. However, you can close off the home from the outside heat even more effectively take the time to check for air gaps in the windows and doors and close them off. You should look up as well, the roof tends to get a lot of sunlight, meaning heat can come in through the attic, so using services like https://www.insulatekansascity.com/attic-insulation/ can help to keep that part of the home at least a little cooler.

Mind your AC

If you havent done it already this year, then its time to arrange for your annual air conditioning servicing stop. Simply put, these machines can get much more inefficient over the course of a few years if they havent been serviced at all, reducing their abilities to help cool the house down. Of course, especially old AC’s might not benefit much from servicing and might instead need to be replaced with more efficient and effective technologies as shown at https://abmay.com/cooling/.

Make sure your home is ready before the summer starts rolling in, or you could be in for a very uncomfortable three or four months. Which improvements featured above could you get started on right away?
