With a little bit of research, you can be sure to make your life easier than ever when travelling with your pet.  If you want some help preparing for your next trip, then this is the guide for you. Take a look below to find out more.

Don’t Assume the Answer is Going to be No for Pet Travel

The amount of people who travel with animals every single year has risen.  A lot more hotels are now accepting dogs, but that being said, you still need to do your research. If you are in doubt, then you need to ask. Never assume that dogs are not allowed, and send an email in advance. If you can do this, then you’ll soon find that there are more options out there for you and that you are also able to get a much better understanding of which hotels are going to be more accommodating to your pooch. If you can’t take your pet abroad, then remember that you can hire a pet sitter instead.

Make some Copies of your Documents

If you are intending on crossing the border or if you are travelling internationally, then you need to make sure that you have your dog’s records. These are absolutely necessary as it proves that your dog has been vaccinated, and it also shows that your pet is healthy too. Officials will absolutely ask to see them, and if you do not have the right documents, then you may be forced to leave your pet behind. If you can, it helps to keep multiple records as this will help you to have a backup copy if you happen to lose one in the chaos of travel.

Use some Dog-Friendly Apps

There are many apps out there that can help you when you are on the road with your pooch. In this day and age, it’s become a lot easier to travel the world. If you want to download some dog-friendly apps, then it helps to look into things such as All Trails and Bring Fido. All Trials helps you to seek out walks that are good for dogs and Bring Fido helps you to find hotels or even attractions that are dog friendly.

Skip out on Hotel Fees

A lot of hotels will charge an extra fee if they need to accommodate your pet as well. You can expect to pay a one-time fee, but sometimes you will need to pay a fee per day. Either way, these additional costs can soon add up, and it may even put pressure on your budget. There are some hotel chains that will welcome your pet without any additional costs at all if you are on a budget, these are the ones that you should be looking at. Before you book your hotel, you may want to ask if any areas are off-limits to dogs, as well as finding out the protocol if you have to leave your dog behind. If you want to make sure that your pet’s stay is comfortable, then it is wise to try and have a good chat with the receptionist to see if they provide dog bowls or any other items for your stay.

Take a Carrier

There are truly a lot of options when it comes to pet carriers on the market. You can even find dog carrier backpacks that can support dogs that weigh up to 40kg as well. They come in a huge range of colors, so you’ll never be short when it comes to finding one you like, and you may even find that you are able to save a significant amount of stress just by having one. This is especially the case if you are trying to navigate a busy airport, so make sure that you keep that in mind if possible as it will absolutely make your journey easier.

Be Respectful

It doesn’t matter where you go because you have to make sure that you are honest and that you are also considerate about those around you. Some people out there love animals, but others not so much. Be polite and know your limits when it comes to your dog. Remember that human relationships with dogs can vary quite a lot across different cultures. Be aware of the various cultural differences that are out there and also make sure that you are sensitive to the human and canine boundaries that people may have. If your pets are somewhat unfriendly to other people or dogs, then make this clear to anyone who may be approaching. You don’t want to have a situation on your hands that could have been avoided. If you’re the owner, then you are certainly the one who is responsible.

Triple-Check the Policy with the Airline

When you are flying internationally, you have to make sure that you triple-check the policy.  Pet policies tend to be in flux quite a lot, and they are always changing too. You need to make sure that you and your dog are always welcome on the flight, and you also need to check the website for the airline too. Give them a call and also make sure that you send them an email confirmation when you do decide to bring the dog on the flight. Policies can vary and so can prices, so make sure that you consider this. There’s also the option of air travel in the cargo, in baggage and in cabin. You’ll want to make sure that you opt for the right option if at all possible because if you don’t then you may be making the trip more stressful than it needs to be for both you and your pet.

Of course, if you follow this guide, then there’s no reason at all why you can’t have a good flight with your pet, and you may even find that you are able to take them on holiday with you more often. This is a great way for you to make sure that you are looking after them and yourself.
