The Command and Colors Wargame System written and designed by RICHARD BORG and published by numerous companies and for multiple era’s and wars is a simple system that once you learn one you can easily pick up other games rules in the C&C system of play.

The system is simple in that the battlefield is divided into three zones – your left flank, your center, and your right flank. Your armies be it spaceships in the future, tanks fighting in Europe, The American Civil War or others are controlled by a deck of cards. On your turn, you play a card that activates one of the sectors and a various number of units in the sector. There are special cards that can activate units in multiple sectors. Once you move your units, combat is determined by the rolling of dice. Civil War Artillery may have a range of 5 and get to roll five dice. When rolling the dice every symbol rolled that matches the target, a unit of that target is removed from the game. Differing units have different ranges and a differing number of dice rolled.

Each of these games comes with a blank battle board with numerous terrain tiles included so that differing battles in each game kit can be set up quickly. So your first battle may be a beach landing in Normandy in WWII, and the next may be an American tank breakthrough against the German flank at the Battle of the Bulge.

The C&C System which it is called is very popular and expansions and new era’s of battles are continually being published. If you are looking for a beginning board wargame to try out this genre of gaming, this is where to start.
