Why does Mark Zuckerberg still believe in the Metaverse?

With Facebooks shares dropping more than 70 per cent and the platform crumbling, youd think that CEO Mark Zuckerberg would give up and go back to business as usual. But despite that, he still believes in the Metaverse and wants it to happen. He genuinely thinks that human beings want to leave miserable reality behind them and step into the fantasy world of his creation.

But why is this? Why does his vision remain intact, despite the troubles his companies are currently experiencing?

Eventually, The Technology Will Work

Right now, Metaverse graphics are poor. Thats because the software has to render the environment in real time. Unlike regular games, theres no loading in the Metaverse, so textures and objects must be communicated in real-time over the internet.

This state of affairs wont always apply. As technology improves over the next decade, graphics will start to look increasingly life-like. Avatars will be more realistic, and environments will become more detailed. The visual appeal of the game wont always be so desperately disappointing.

People Will Get Used To It

It took around ten years for people to get used to the concept of a social network. The first began popping up online in the late 1990s. However, it wasnt until around 2008 that social networking actually became mainstream.

Zuckerberg is betting on something similar to the Metaverse. Such concepts have only been around for a couple of years. Of course, theyre not going to work perfectly just yet. Thats going to take a significant amount of time. People havent gotten used to it yet, so theyre not sure what to expect or what they can get out of it. But in the future, things will change, or so the reasoning goes.

Killer Features Arent Available Yet

The Metaverse is still very much in its infancy. As far as Zuckerberg is concerned, whats out there at the moment is just a showpiece. Its nowhere near close to the platforms potential.

Big features, such as full immersion virtual reality, simply arent available yet. Its going to take time for them to arrive.

We also dont have much of an economic backbone to these systems yet. Trades are quite basic, and crypto integration is yet to happen at scale.

Whats more, technologies, such as Neurolink, still arent up and running. You cant just plug yourself into these realms and get experiences as if they were real life. And thats a pity.

You Will Be Able To Work There In The Future

Lastly, and perhaps the biggest reason Zuckerberg still believes in the Metaverse, is that youll be able to work there in the future. People will transact with each other in virtual worlds instead of through conventional real-world channels. Eventually, the platform will feel as realistic as the Avatar movies. There wont be such an obvious separation between the simulated world, and the real thing.

So thats where were at right now, and why Zuckerberg and his wife Chan keep plodding along with this idea. They genuinely believe that it will succeed in the long run.
