Excitement rushes
when he hears the squeal of the metal detector,
hurriedly, he pushes his foot down on the shovel
hoping to unearth a piece of history.
Unveiling a metal bottle cap
his disappointment lingers
but it doesn’t hinder his search
for he’s determined to discover
a long-lost treasure.
Hours turn into days,
days turn into nights,
but his will and determination
doesn’t give up this fight.
He’s certain riches await him
as he walks through the hot sun
listening for the barren earth
to give him a clue.
