Splendor is a gem collecting, card collecting game. The game is for 2-4 gamers and plays in about 30 minutes.
Players start with 2 of one color or 3 of three differing colored chips, representing some five colored gems in the game that the gamers are collecting to win the game. The game ends when a player collects 15 points. Each player is assured an equal number of turns, and the victory goes to the Master Gemologist with the most victory points at the conclusion of the game.
On a turn, a player can take additional gems or spend their collected gems on cards representing a gem collection, which provides a permanent gem of that color in your hand. So as you use your collected chips to buy gems your collection grows and then the combination of purchased cards and chips allows you to purchase larger better cards, some with victory points on them as well. As your collection grows it can possibly attract Nobles to your faction which also contributes to your victory points. As all the cards are faced up and available for each person to purchase on their turn, the choices you make each turn can and often thwart your opponents in their turns, make them rethink their strategy and allow you to get ahead.
Splendor is fast moving and can play in about 30 minutes once everyone is familiar with the game. The game Splendor should be in everyone’s collection and is a great game to use to introduce others to the hobby of boardgaming.
